چکیده

Dra. Martha Tena-Suck – Departamento de Neuropatología / Instituto Nacional de Neurología y Neurocirugía “Manuel Velasco Suárez” Av. Insurgentes Sur, 3788 Col. La fama, Delegación Tlalpan C.P. 14269 México DF México. E-mail: [email protected] Intracranial germ cell tumors (GCTs), especially pineal tumors have attracted the special attention of neuropathologists and neurosurgeons because of their unique growth sites, characteristic subtypes with different histology, and high incidence in Japan and other Asian countries. They are usually arise in midline structures, including the pineal or suprasellar regions, more commonly seen in pediatric patients than in adults. Radiosurgery is increasingly being used to treat pineal region tumors, either as an additional therapy after conventional treatments, the potential for late effects makes the treatment controversial. Radiation-induced intracranial neoplasms are uncommon but well described and include gliomas, meningiomas, and sarcomas. Germinoma developing an anaplastic astrocytoma is a rare event of radiation-induced intracranial tumors.

Intracranial Germinoma: Successful Management by Chemotherapy and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy

Introduction: Germinomas are malignant intracranial germ cell tumors, usually found in pineal region. These tumors are exquisitely sensitive to radiation. Whole ventricle radiation (RT) with a boost field to the primary tumor is the standard treatment for localized germinomas. RapidArc radiotherapy is considered an excellent technological advance that shows great potential for producing highly ...

The cycling pool of cells within human brain tumors: in situ cytokinetics using the monoclonal antibody Ki-67.

Brain tumor growth results from the relative proportion of cells contained in three populations: a) cycling/proliferative; b) quiescent (GO)/static, and c) terminally differentiated/dying. The cycling compartment can be detected by the mouse monoclonal Ki-67 antibody, an available, rapid, safe, sensitive, and specific method for immunostaining of proliferative cells. We report the Ki-67 labelin...

A Rare Case of a Pure Testicular Seminoma Presenting 7 Years after a Pineal Germinoma

Pure testicular seminomas occurring in patients with previous intracranial germ cell tumours are extremely rare. We present such a case. A 37-year-old gentleman presented to urology after previously being treated for a pineal germinoma with steroids and radiotherapy. On routine followup, he described symptoms of a testicular seminoma. This was managed surgically with radical orchidectomy. We di...
